Agenda
- Opening Remarks -- Brian
- Budget for 2009-2010 (and beyond)
Budget cut by 50% for next year. Gale prepared budget overview. Blaze on 5th year. Life cycle reserve should not be restricted to only Beowulf replacement, but also SMP type machinery. Recommendation to make sure next SMP system has better I/O subsystem than Altair.(Something better than SATA performance next time.) Software licensing comes out of a different budget.
- Significant budget reduction - how will we adjust?
Possibly change fee for Level 2 accounts(not changed since implemented), possibly charge for storage space, purchasing more equipment ( put storage and compute servers only available on pay side so it would support increasing level 2 fee).
- Need for additional cost-recovery methods
- Issues considered by sub-committees:
- Outreach and Education (Ben Felzer, chair)
1- HPC Day Update --Brandon44 registrants, check for keynote, just small details left on logistics.
- Future Systems (Slava Rotkin, chair)
1- New hardware purchase (SMP for enhanced level 2 access, larger storage)Discussed quotes from Sun (matching grant pricing) and Microway. Awaiting quotes from Dell.2- HP grant for tablet-PC classroomHP grant application (PI Bruce Koel) if funded will need systems support for funding undergraduate student academics.

- Operations
Kernel mods seem to be helping in annoying slow downs ( software induced RAID issues possibly) - got rid of CPU lockups on large jobs.
- Altair disk failure and kernel upgrade issues --Steve Lidie
- Other Items:
Abaqus installation - CentoOS, Fedora much slower than RHEL speeds. Run on Condor on Altair.
