             Tradition of Excellence Award for Steve Lidie for work over summer getting new hardware online .

  • Strategic Planning (Brian Davison, chair)
1- Brief update on HPC/computational engineering discussion at RCEAS retreat - Brian
Bruce feels next big ideas in HPC for the campus must come out of Dean's areas
           2- LTS software committee update on scientific computing licenses - Gale
                     LS-DYNA - Peter has information that allows us better pricing from a different vendor
                     Matlab - purchased 5 Parallel Compute Toolkit licenses purchased and installed
                               Plaxis - tabled discussion
                            Kamil  - wanted more Spartan licenses for Linux
                            Meghanad - how do we know what sw is out there, what stats are available on usage of specific titles
                            Brandon - new HPC web page will describe "parallel-aware, mulit-core capable" third party sw we currently posses
                            Slava - need specialized support for these titles
  • Policies and Procedures (Peter Bryan, chair)
Peter will post policies he has collected from other universities
1- LTS machine room colocation policy update - Gale
 Draft document passed out and also circulated via email to members.
 Questions: is there 24x7 support on these systems : requires SNA Team Leader input
                            need to make agreement more attractive to faculty
                            six years of support of systems required  - not realistic, will be shortened
                            need to develop more of a shared condominium cluster program                    
  • Outreach and Education (Ben Felzer, chair)
1- HPC Day Planning status - Ben
April 3, 2009 - keynote Dr. Rich Loft, NCAR, (link to recent appearance at SC08 - http://www.cisl.ucar.edu/SC/08/abs_loft.shtml);  morning HPC training with PSC agreed again; rooms reserved at RBC for the day - morning, lunch, keynote, and afternoon sessions - whatever they maybe ( Open panel discussion and 3 faculty talks, or just 3 or 4 talks and no panel).
  • Future Systems (Slava Rotkin, chair)
1- Egenera donations update - Gale
received 3 systems; one is online, other 2 are ready for use, but just need a mission
  • Proposal Development (Bob Kendi, chair)
  • Operations - (not enough time to do any of these topics)
1- Super user privileges for GCM cluster - Gale
2- Altair performance update - Steve L.
This question came up while discussing dedicated use of HPC resources.  The original problem has not been corrected.

3- Software upgrades update - Steve L.

4- Ganglia monitoring utility update - Steve L.

5- Suggestions for use of remaining Egenera blades - Steve L.
